Professor Santosh Kumar Tewari, M.Sc., LL.M. (both from Lucknow University), Ph.D. (in Journalism from Cardiff University, U.K.) is HOD and Dean of the School of Mass Communication and Media Technologies, Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), Ranchi.. Before joining CUJ, he was HOD and Dean Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU), Vadodara. Prior to joining MSU he was Professor, founder Head of the Department of Mass Communication and founder Dean of the School of Information Sciences at the Assam Central University, Silchar, Assam; and before that he was Reader (Associate Professor) and Head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
Prior to joining academics, he worked on different newspapers and magazines in New Delhi and Lucknow for more than one and a half decades.
He is also recipient of three foreign scholarships – two British and one Canadian.
In 1982 he was awarded a Thomson Foundation Scholarship to do an advanced course in print journalism at London School of Printing, London, UK.
In 1989 he was awarded an FCO-University of Wales Postgraduate Research Scholarship for conducting the full time doctoral research in Journalism at the Centre for Journalism Studies, University of Wales, Cardiff, U.K. The Scholarship was for three years, i.e. from 1989 to 1992.
In 2001 he was awarded a Shastri Indo-Canadian Faculty Research Fellowship for undertaking research at the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, University of Western Ontario, Canada.
He was a member of the University Grants Commission’s expert committee which developed model curriculum in the discipline of Journalism and Mass Communication for Indian universities.
He also helped Indira Gandhi National Open University in launching its PG Diploma programme in Journalism and Mass Communication. He edited as well as wrote some course material for the programme.

A little over three years ago
nearly a dozen editors sat together and pondered over what ails Indian
electronic news media. This happened as
a sequel to the then impending threat that under pressure from the public and
politicians alike, the Government was contemplating to bring in a legislation
to “shackle media into submission”. We got our acts together and cautioned the
government against any such move which would be repugnant to democratic
principles. Thus came into existence the
Broadcast Editors’ Association (BEA) . The body is committed to improving the
content so as to make the profession and the electronic media a tool to
positive change in society. But the BEA feels given the strong wasted
interested the task is difficult though not insurmountable. I am its General
Secretary.
At present I write articles on socio-political issues in country’s
major newspapers and appear on news channels as political commentator and
analyst.
Over 33 years in journalism
at various positions and with three newspapers besides ETV and Sadhna News. For
over two decades I remained a field reporter for-- National herald, The Pioneer
and Newstime/Eenadu -- English and Telugu dailies in various capacities like
reporter, senior reporter, chief reporter, Chief Sub-Editor and Senior Special
Correspondent. I have been in electronic journalism for over a decade as bureau
chief and was the Political Editor of ETV—an organization with 12 regional
channels including four Hindi channels and am now the editor of Sadhna News. I have
acquainted myself deeply with almost all departments of journalism and
production. I have remained involved in launching of most of the media ventures
of both The Pioneer and the Eenadu/ETV group. Since I functioned as the
senior-most person in the editorial set-up for all 12 –channels-- and thereby
held a position next to Chairman-- my job entailed recruitment, training and
directions related to editorial affairs.
I covered some major events
on foreign soil. My investigative story written immediately after December 6,
1992 Babri demolition titled “The order that changed the course in Ayodhya
events” found mention in various Central Government documents including white
paper. It also found mention in subsequent parliamentary debates. Some of my
stories did result in change of a few flawed Government rules and regulations.
I stayed with lepers in a lepers’ home for a few days to do to a story on their
plight and psychology. It was widely read and reacted upon.
In my 33 years of
professional career, I stayed with The National Herald for five Years, The
Pioneer for Ten years, and Eenadu/ETV group for 16 years and at the Sadhna
News. I do not believe in job-hopping because the set-ups I have worked for
gave my utmost satisfaction and I also reciprocated the gesture with hard work,
professional acumen and required loyalty.

Minutes
The first meeting of the Advisory Board to the Media Harmony Chair was held on Sunday 14 July 2013 in IASE Office, Dwarka, New Delhi. The following were present at the meeting:

Shri Ratan Mani Lal, a member of the Board could not attend the meeting.
At the meeting it was resolved:
1. That Shri N.K. Singh, New Delhi, may be co-opted as member of the Advisory Board, if he gives his consent for the prupose.
2. That Professor M.R. Dua, Retired from IIMC New Delhi and currently in the USA, Dr. Ashir Mehta of the M.S. University of Baroda and Professor K.V. Nagraj of Assam University, Silchar, may be requested to become member of our Research Committee.
At the meeting draft of Dr. Asim Kumar Mitra's Existentential Harmony Reseach Project was circulated. Members will give their opinion on it. The Meeting also considered a research project presented by Professor S.K. Tewari. Members gave some suggestions on the same. Final decision on the projects may be taken in the next meeting of the Advisory Board.
The meeting ended with thanks to the Chair.
