Professor Santosh Kumar Tewari, M.Sc., LL.M. (both from Lucknow University), Ph.D. (in Journalism from Cardiff University, U.K.) is HOD and Dean of the School of Mass Communication and Media Technologies, Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), Ranchi.. Before joining CUJ, he was HOD and Dean Faculty of Journalism and Communication, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU), Vadodara. Prior to joining MSU he was Professor, founder Head of the Department of Mass Communication and founder Dean of the School of Information Sciences at the Assam Central University, Silchar, Assam; and before that he was Reader (Associate Professor) and Head of Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
Prior to joining academics, he worked on different newspapers and magazines in New Delhi and Lucknow for more than one and a half decades.
He is also recipient of three foreign scholarships – two British and one Canadian.
In 1982 he was awarded a Thomson Foundation Scholarship to do an advanced course in print journalism at London School of Printing, London, UK.
In 1989 he was awarded an FCO-University of Wales Postgraduate Research Scholarship for conducting the full time doctoral research in Journalism at the Centre for Journalism Studies, University of Wales, Cardiff, U.K. The Scholarship was for three years, i.e. from 1989 to 1992.
In 2001 he was awarded a Shastri Indo-Canadian Faculty Research Fellowship for undertaking research at the Faculty of Information and Media Studies, University of Western Ontario, Canada.
He was a member of the University Grants Commission’s expert committee which developed model curriculum in the discipline of Journalism and Mass Communication for Indian universities.
He also helped Indira Gandhi National Open University in launching its PG Diploma programme in Journalism and Mass Communication. He edited as well as wrote some course material for the programme.
